White Sands
Missile Range was founded in 1945 as a place to test the V2 rockets we
took from Germany after WW2. It was taken from the ranchers like
pat garret and Mcdonald ranchhouse where the Manhattan Project was
constructed. The first atomic bomb was tested there also, which
is known as Trinity Site. It is now used to test all newly
constructed military equipment we use. In the Picture above is
Missile Park which anyone can visit. In the picture on the far
top is White Sands Monument which is by the city Alamagordo, which
anyone can visit.

The weather on white sands is like the rest of
New Mexico. It is very hot in the summers about 97+
degrees. During the winter on the coldest days at the end of
December it drops to about 40 degrees. Occasionally it snows but
it doesn't usually stay on the ground for more than a day or so.
It does stay in the mountain tops.

At Trinity Site on the White Sands range is
where the first atomic bomb was tested. IT was constructed at the
Mcdonald ranch house, and was hoisted on the metal structure in front
of the house. The Trinity Site and McDonald ranch house
are open once a year to the public to tour.
